Sid McCoy , best known as the announcer for the "Soul Train" TV series , has passed away . In addition to his announcer's duties . McCoy was a jazz producer from the VeeJay label .

Sid McCoy had one of the best radio voices I ever heard - deep and resonant.  I spoke to him on the phone when I did the Vee-Jay story in 1980 (pub. 5/81 in Goldmine), and he had some hilarious stories. Sorry to hear this news.

He also had a recurring role on the Bill Cosby Show (1969-71) as a school administration.
