Reply with quote | #17 | There were so many bands with a style like this that it's tough to narrow it down. I really don't think we're talking a British band. Just doing a quick tour of YouTube brings almost a dozen bands with a similar sound on the continent, Netherlands, France, Belgium. Cees & His Skyliners, The Toreros, Les Megatones, The Javelins, The Cousins, The Mustangs, The Jokers, Boy & His Rollin' Kids. All had the same kind of sound and were active in the time period.
You need almost an expert in continental instrumentals to pin this one down, good luck.

Reply with quote | #18 | Hmmm... nightmare central! Think you could well be right since had it been a British track one of us should had identified it by now.
This is another factor that annoys me about The Shadows absence from the R+R Hall Of Fame... they were enormously popular on the Continent, Japan and other parts of the World so it is wrong they're not even considered because they didn't hit in America.
Hundreds, probably thousands of bands round the world took that style helping result in this puzzle we have right now!

Almost sounds like a surf thing to me; at first I thought it might be the Sentinals (sic) or such-like, but it sounds maybe a little too polished for them. |

Reply with quote | #21 | Only just found this thread. Yes....definitely not the Barons, the Cougars, the Dakotas, the Eagles, the Fentones, the Hunters, the Krew Kats, the Nu - Notes, The Shadows etc., etc. or any RGM Instrumental group other indeed - I agree not a UK group at all.
I would agree 100% with the Euro Instrumental group theory. The section 0'44" - 1' 09" is a blatant copy of part of the Shadows' "Geronimo" - no doubt whatsoever. The remainder of the track sounds very close (but not 100% - in order to avoid plagiarism suits) to the fairly obscure Billy J Kramer track "Dance With Me". One group who are renowned for this type of pastiche (coming close to direct copies of melodies) - very skilfully done & who spring to my mind are the Silhouets (leader & main composer Rob Roekens) from Belgium. They have been around for a long time and so this recording (if it is indeed them - it does sound like them) could come from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or even 00s!!! I only have two of their many CDs and this track (As I say - if it IS them & I could, of course, be completely wrong) isn't on there. Any Silhouets fans with an extensive collection of their LPs / CDs out there???
Bests....Rob Bradford
