Reply with quote | #1 | Why remake it? But I guess they can't help themselves.
I would much rather have Paul and Ringo loop for the original film. Maybe get Julian Lennon and Dhani Harrison to do looping also. Or not.....

Hollywood is running out of ideas or ideas they want to bankroll. Stars want too much money. Production and promotion costs are through the roof. Since so much money is involved Hollywood is gravitating to remakes of older, successful pictures, thinking it will be a sure-fire hit. The script is mostly written, work in a few obscenities to get a PG-13 rating, add CGI and voila summer's next blockbuster.
Off soapbox.

A more honest if cynical rephrasing of the first line in my eyes would be - Hollywood has run out of ideas. Illegal downloading, pirating and sharing has certainly left it's mark over the last decade to the point that I steer clear from the movies. I HATE CGI. It is useful when used sparingly but when they start using it to overkill like they often do, I have no tolerance for artificial reality.
If a lot of the big egotistical stars took pay cuts that would help a little. How much the likes of Tom Cruise and Will Smith get paid per movie is downright obscene.
I could stand on my soapbox forever and a day so I'll climb back down and return to the main topic here... I just wish they'd leave this classic movie alone. It's a wonderful period piece that does not need any kind of updating for a "modern" audience. I'm really annoyed and upset the project has been given the green light.

. . . only for about the last ten years. As if the "remake" fever wasn't bad enough, then they have to foist travesties like the upcoming "A Christmas Carol" on us, claiming that it is a "definitive" telling of the story, when the commercials clearly show that they have packed it with "hip" anachronistic behaviors and lines.
They richly deserve the failure they are reaping right now.

Like any art form , it's gonna take fresh , new , young talent to come up with original ideas . You have a prime example out there right now with "Paranormal Activity " , made on a shoestring budget that's grossing millions |

Reply with quote | #7 | And then there's Pixar, who's had 10 hits in a row, all with completely original ideas, which is something that the Disney studio couldn't even do during Walt's lifetime.

I am still waiting for Hollyood to make a CGI movie of the great video game, Pong. I also hate CGI and I hate cartoons too. I don't watch movies much anymore. |
