Hi folks,

I'm not sure of my aging memory serves me well but I think in the 70's or was it the 80's some car audio but more importantly...Television audio systems had a loudness dampening option that you can activate.  TV is also guilty of this LOUD audio processing that you talk about.  Knowing that the advertising companies that did commercials on TV intensified the assault with the video and made any important subliminal messages on the screen stay there to get the viewer to notice and remember the message.  When I was in Japan in the 1970's I haven't watched American TV for almost a year and I was desensitized from advertising on TV.  I watched the Japanese commercials and they used a  "you cant ignore, in your face" TV advertising method.  Their TV audio was literally yelling at you like the US Billy Mays.
The video would have large text or numbers to get their message across and it would flash VERY rapidly to stimulate you subconscious memory.  They would repeat key words frequently to do the same there.  It looked like they pulled out all the stops and had NO limit on what they would do.  They must have looked at all of US movie theater, AM radio and TV in your face advertising of the 50's and 60's and magnified all of it.  Has anyone seen that type of advertising in Japan in the 70's.  Not sure if they still do that.  Their approach to TV advertising is like AM radio advertising hear where it stimulates all available sense to the point of being extreme and annoying.

So my only approach to this type of advertising is...
TURN IT OFF OR MUTE IT.  It doesn't work for me.  Truth be told...advertisers here anticipate that reaction too and it still makes a lasting impression on what they want to get you to remember.  That's also why they get the keyword or slogan out blasting right at first..they know you will either stay or go but the result is the same for their intent.  Am I imagining this or is that what you folks observe too.   Your feedback, please...hold the audio.

Ron Jones, who started CRL, disolved the epoxy hiding the limiter circuit in the Volumax, and copied it.  They never knew.  But he went well beyond that designed his own circuits.

I went from the DAP to CRL, and it was a big improvment in many ways.  With AM higher modulation means higher power.  100% modulation of a 1000 watt AM signal produces 1500 watts.  So while that is not achieved, except in audio peaks, it does indeed increase the station listening range by improving singal to noise in fringe areas.
